Today, I’ll be answering a question that came in from a reader. They wanted to know whether or not office affairs happen in small towns.
The answer is an unquestionable “Yes!” Office affairs happen whether you are in a small town or a big city. The risk is always there, no matter where the office is located.
The main difference is that there is less anonymity in a small town. This means that news of a small town affair spreads faster than in a large urban center.
Not even church offices are immune from affairs. At a church I once worked with in a small town there was even an incident. In this case, while the pastor was in his study, a totally naked woman entered his office.
He was shocked at the woman entering his office and managed having the wits enough to run out of his office at that point. These kinds of things and full blown affairs happen in offices from small to large.
My unscientific survey of small town medical offices is that the affair danger is real. According to my sources, the big difference with small town offices from big city ones is the amount of secrecy involved.
Affairs happen in medical, legal and school offices. Being a professional doesn’t reduce the risk. If anything the greater the money and power, the greater the risk of an affair happening.
Large offices have the additional danger of increased risk due to there being more people in close contact. The more the people, the greater the risk of an affair happening.
The risk of affairs is ever present whether you are in a small town or urban area. Moving to another location will not eliminate the risk of an affair hurting your marriage.
The best way of defending against them is strengthening your marriage. The stronger your marriage is, the lower the risk of an affair become an uninvited guest into your special relationship.
It’s also important that you deal with affair dangers when you discover them. What you consider a slight or harmless danger may actually be signaling a greater threat.
