You made me do it!

The expression, “You made me do it!” may sound plausible, but it is not honest. This statement does not show any acceptance of responsibility. All it does is shift blame. Sadly, some people fall for it. I recall back in college, when a room mate was fighting with his girlfriend, he exclaimed, “Tell me what you want to hear and I will tell you that”. I was astounded that he said it. I was even more astounded when the girlfriend fell for it and made up with him. Many times when people are hurting, they fall for lies and distortions. Lies and distortions are part of what  created the affair mess in the first place. Telling more lies and doing more blaming is not the solution. A more honest response is “I was unhappy in the marriage and I chose to have an affair rather than fix the marriage”. This is more honest than “You made me do it!”
