Affairs, seeds and puppies have a lot in common

People are familiar with the proverb, concerning how will reap what you sow. One aspect of that proverb that is often overlooked with affairs concerns the growth of those seeds. Seeds often produce fruit, and lots of it. One watermelon seed can produce many more watermelons than one. Along these same lines, a women once told me that in relationships, that feelings grow. That relationship that was once cute and cuddly like a puppy will eventually grow into a dog. It will no longer go back into its cage, to be played with at the whim of the owner, it grows a life of its own.

In a similar manner, affairs have a life of their own. The one night that began the relationship grows into something much larger than originally planned. When affairs grow, they demand more attention, use more resources and involve more people. What starts off small grows into something unmanageable. Once the passions and emotions are unleased in an affair, they develop a life of their own. What you intended as a fling or ego enhancer will turn into something that you never imagined.

The time to stop an affair is before they start. Much like the seeds will grow, the affair will grow. It will produce fruit, and do so in quanitites that are beyond what you ever intended.
