Infidelity in the fourth grade?

A recent news article on a writing assignment given to fourth graders in an Arizona schools has raised some concerns. Children were given the homework assignment of writing about a ‘situation’. The given situation was ‘a woman finding a hair clip underneath her bed with another woman’s hair in it.’

A mother raised concerns about her child being exposed to such ‘situations’ as part of her education. After the mother raised concerns, the teacher apologized and commented that she had not carefully read the assignment. Even this response concerns me in that teachers are giving out homework material concerning affair situations to young children. It was caught in this case, but I wonder how many times was such an assignment is not caught.

Too many children are forced to deal with adult situation due to the behavior of their parents. It is one thing when the choices of their parents force it upon them and quite another thing for young children to be exposed to such situations as part of their school lessons. The purpose of schools is education and the development of basic intellectual skills, not programming them for societies loose morals.
