Why “Survive?”

Although using the term ‘survive’ may seem dramatic to some, when you are hit with an affair, it really is a matter of survival. Each day is a struggle to find the energy and the will to continue. Some days are better than others. In the aftermath of your spouse cheating, you may be doing well to leave bed and do basic functions. Finding just the energy to do that may be a struggle in itself. You understand what it means to ‘survive’. When you live life one day at a time, you understand what it means to survive. Like someone who lived through a life threatening event, the whole meaning of your life has changed. Although outsiders may wonder “Why can’t you just move on with things?”, they often do not understand the challenge ahead of you. They want the best for you, but may not know how to connect with you and support you in ways that you need supporting. Although movies and television shows often have stories of people adjusting to major life changes, all in the space of the movie or show, real life does not happen that way.

The more you take care of yourself, the easier it will become. The motivation will return that inspires you to face the world. Healing takes time. Expecting yourself to bounce back after a few days or even few weeks is unrealistic. You have to find healing for your heart, your head and your soul. Each of those areas have different healing times.
