Stopping the Freight Train of Adultery

When you take a stand against adultery, it often feels like you are standing in defiance of an oncoming freight train. That feeling is not by chance. Each peccadillo of cheaters adds another car onto a long train of them coming in your direction. Affairs, like trains do not stop on demand. With all the power and baggage behind them, they are not easily halted. It takes time and often major changes in the cheater’s life in order for them to stop. They have to see a “bridge out ahead” or some other sign where their self-interest or security are threatened before they take steps to stop the affair. The analogy of the train also conveys how affairs set things in motion and then the cheater mindlessly just goes along. Once trains are in motion, then you are left to guide them. The faster they go, the less control the engineer (driver) has. They can not maneuver the affair to make quick adjustments. The longer the affair goes, the faster events seem to happen. Cheaters often set things in motion and then just passively go ‘along for the ride’.

It takes a lot of brakes to stop a train. In a similar manner it takes a lot of effort to stop an affair as well. They can be stopped, but it will likely take longer and be a bigger operation than you originally assumed it to be. You will have to allow time for the thing to stop. First it has to slow down and then come to a halt.
