What good does crying do?

You may think that you are either too tough to cry or that crying does not accomplish anything. When you are in pain, crying often helps. It does not change the situation, but it does help keep your emotional balance and remove toxins in your body (Here is an article on the benefits). When you are in pain, especially emotional pain, the chemicals released in your body changes things. Even though you may be calm on the outside, the wear and tear of the emotionally released chemicals is taking its toll on your body and mind. Some of the chemicals influence your thinking, and others influence your functioning. Either way, they are changing you. Crying is a way to re-establish the balance and clear the influence of those emotion chemicals. Crying does not change the circumstances, but it often changes you. It allows a release of pent up feelings that you may not have even realized that you were experiencing.

You may have to be careful about where you cry. Using crying to manipulate your spouse is never a good idea. Using crying as a way of eliciting sympathy from others is not a good idea either. When you cry, you need to cry by yourself and for yourself. You do not need an audience to cry. Just you and God are the only ones that need to know.
