Happy Memes don’t heal marriages

In a conversation over the weekend, my wife and I were discussing memes and marriage. We often share the memes and quotes we encountered over the week that made us laugh, think or inspire.

They come to you in your newsfeeds and through motivational posters or even stickers and magnets. The memes are often catchy and uplifting.

If they were negative, I doubt they’d sell or be emblazoned on t-shirts. No one wants downer sayings. Instead, you want to be inspired by ‘happy’ memes.

In previous generations, couples would share  funny and uplifting cartoons or stories they came across. With the popularity of memes, they become a topic of conversation.

One of the conclusions we arrived at regarding memes is that “Happy Memes don’t heal marriages”.

There are times that they provide encouragement and help you through tough times. They may even inspire you to put forth a second effort in your marriage. These are both good things.

Even AA encourages its attendees to ‘use the slogans’ as part of their program.

When your marriage is hurting, it needs more than happy memes. At those times, changes are needed beyond the scope of the meme.

Although memes cover a wide range of marriage issues, they don’t provide you with the depth and intensity needed for your marriage. When your marriage is in trouble, it requires soul searching, and changes on multiple levels.

The problem with memes is that they don’t show you how to make the needed changes. They also don’t show you the sequence of changes you need. Some changes come initially while others occur as a result of the earlier changes.

Although I’d like to fill your mailbox with happy memes, I want to see your marriage improve. That means I need to be honest about memes and your marriage.

In the “30 Days to a Better Marriage“, you’ll find daily tasks and challenges designed for bringing the needed changes to your marriage.

Order the “30 Days to a Better Marriage” and start making changes rather than just attaching happy memes.

Keeping It Real,

Jeff
