Are there times you wish you’d seen the affair coming? You may have even beat yourself up over how you missed something you should’ve seen.
You may have missed one affair, but you can do something about the next one. It’s that next affair that really messes things up even worse than now.
Instead of beating yourself up about what you missed and can’t change, focus on things you can do in preventing the next one.
With any affair, there’s a danger of Affair Relapse. The reality is that once your spouse steps across the boundaries of your marriage, there’s a greater chance they’ll do it again.
They may want to stay in the marriage, but having crossed the line, there’s less holding them back from doing it again. Some cheaters manage handling the temptation to stray. I hope yours is one of those who can handle resisting the temptation.
The problem is that when stress comes along, it’s the most powerful trigger for taking them back into an affair. With all the COVID-19 fears and lockdown issues, homes have become pressure cookers for stress.
People behave differently when they’re under stress. The things they told themselves that they wouldn’t ‘ever’ do, they are drawn toward.
Even in nature, when objects are under stress, they change. Coal becomes under enough pressure and heat can transform into diamonds or graphite (pencil lead). When your spouse is under enough emotional pressure and the heat of temptation, they’ll change.
Knowing that, consider what you’re going to do about the stress they’re experiencing. Do you even recognize when they’re under stress? Do you know how to help them when they’re experiencing stress?
When you don’t know what to do, it’s likely that you’ll do nothing or the wrong thing. Knowing what to do increases the likelihood that the recovery the two of you have done will stick.
