Being made a fool

Being made a fool of is embarrassing. It’s even worse when the person making a fool of you is your own spouse and their affair.

Affairs are bad enough. When the affair goes on long enough for you to look foolish it makes the pain even worse.

Although others may try comforting you with assurances about how your spouse made the bad choices, it does little in reducing the agony of being the last to know about the affair.

It’s not by accident that what’s known as the ‘sucker punch’ has many of similar sensations. Being made a fool of typically feels like an emotional sucker punch delivered by your spouse. In some cultures, this phenomenon is considered a matter of bringing shame onto yourself.
