“Have you ruled out bipolar disorders?”

When affairs occur, it is automatically assumed that the cause is “that no-good ______ just can’t keep their _________ in their pants” or “that no-good ________just can’t keep her legs together”. In some cases, that may be what is occurring, but it does not apply to every case. In many cases, there may be some underlying mental health issues behind their affair episode. The main culprit is bipolar (manic-depression). While going through the roller coaster mood swings, those afflicted often resort to acting out in a sexual manner. When it is diagnosed and treated, there is often a drastic change in the person’s mood. Other issues I have seen include sexual addictions and unresolved sexual abuse issues. These are complicated matters that require more room to explain than what I have here.

The bottom line is, before you assume that the affair is about sex and disloyalty to you, make sure you have ruled out possible mental health issues. It could be that there are other explanations for the behaviors that you have seen.  Since you have promised to love them in sickness and in health, there may be some sicknesses that are at work. If you suspect that there is some kind of disorder, you can research it on the internet or in a library. If your research confirms your suspicions, then check with a mental health professional and have them evaluated.
