While running errands on Saturday, my wife and I returned to our car after stopping at the local Bed, Bath and Beyond. On starting up the car, we saw a flyer placed under the windshield wiper.
I managed turning on the wiper and pushing the flyer to where I could reach it from in the car. It was from a local church. The title of this article caught my attention.
In big bold capital letters it proclaimed “DIVORCE IS SIN”. I thought, this is something I need to read.
Sure enough, it addressed adultery, divorce and having more than one wife. With each topic, the author, Tony Alamo, addressed whether each one was or wasn’t sin along with the chapter and verse references.
I don’t know what kind of church it was from. I can tell you that the matching suits for the pastor husband and wife struck me as showmanship.
I’ve learned that I can find nuggets of wisdom and insights in the most unlikely places. One point that the author made was that ‘divorce is the cause of adultery’. This goes contrary to modern society which considers adultery the cause of divorce.
I suppose this is the modern version of which came first, ‘the chicken or the egg’. What is clear is that there is a connection between adultery and divorce. Arguing over which precedes the other only serves to raise your blood pressure.
What I do know is that you can break the cycle. Adultery doesn’t have to be an automatic divorce. The connection can be broken.
