Lessons from Lock Downs

Having worked in a psychiatric hospital, I was introduced to ‘lock downs’ long before they became part of today’s culture. When a ‘lock down’ was announced, our routine changed.

When a lock down was called, the daily routine was hijacked. Someone or several someone’s did something that created an unsafe situation.

The whole focus shifted to creating safety at that point. It was no longer about gaining new insights or improving family relationship, or communicating more clearly.

During those times the whole approach to caring for patients was radically different in terms of what was listened for. Everything done and said was evaluated in terms of safety.

When lock downs ended, although things were supposed to return to business as usual, tensions typically took a while to settle down.

In a similar way, when an affair happens, it hijacks your mind. The sudden threat lights up the alarm part of your brain. Once turned on, that part of your brain (known as the amygdala) puts you into alert status.

Being in alert status changes how you look at the world. It changes how you view your spouse, your marriage and your life.

It’s not just your brain and thinking effected. Your whole body tenses up and reacts due to the cortisol surging into your body’s organs. You may want to relax and settle down, but you can’t.

Even after the affair ends, your mind may experience trouble returning to business as usual. Once your amygdala’s been activated, there are times it gets stuck in alert mode.

You want to calm down and give your brain a rest, but it won’t slow down. When that happens, what do you do? In the upcoming special report for members of the Restored Lifestyle site entitled “Using Brain Hacks for Healing” I share with you ways of manually over riding situations like this.

You can learn ways of forcing your brain to start calming down. The report comes out September 15th, so you still have time to take action.

Keeping It Real,

Jeff
