There was a time when I related to Dilbert cartoons. The events taking place in his cubicle office world gave me hope as I found myself in one of those cubicle environments.
Although Dilbert gives you an opportunity for finding humor in such environments, there are some very real dangers that come with such surroundings. Putting people in environments where the light, space, and even the air are artificial put your body in a weird bind.
As humans, such environments are unnatural. Being kept in them has some unnatural side effects.
One of the effects of spending so many hours in the modern office world is that it creates a ‘hot house’ environment for affairs. In such artificial surroundings, the smell of cologne and colorful attire received concentrated attention.
Items which may have been overlooked in other settings are now magnified. With artificial light, walls and space all being controlled, it shifts attention to members of the opposite sex. Even slight gestures are magnified in their meaning and power.
You may wondered why so many affairs begin in offices. One reason is the environment itself shuts down so many other stimuli, that when someone at the office even slightly stimulates its impact is amplified.
The amplified stimulation, especially when pheromones kick in, has a powerful impact. That impact can be hard for some spouses to resist or ignore.
Add to this the frequent interacting with each other during the day, for days on end, and it only becomes a matter of time before something happens. Resisting the stimulation of someone you work closely with is hard for some of you.
