“That was awkward!”

Anytime you hear the phrase “That was awkward“, it alerts you to weirdness going on. Affairs are bad enough without the addition of awkward moments and the weirdness they bring.

Affairs put you and your family in some unnatural situations. Even if you refuse viewing affairs as immoral, you still have to admit they’re unnatural and embarrassing.

Even though popular culture may not want to think of it as being ‘shameful’, those moments leave you feeling like something isn’t right. You know there’s something wrong about them, no matter how much rationalizing you do.

One of the unnatural aspects that affairs bring are those ‘awkward’ moments. One I heard of recently concerned a betrayed spouse.

She found herself in the position of being called by the parents of the AP. Although the call was one where they apologized for the AP, she found it  weird.

Rather than the AP showing maturity or adult qualities, others spoke up for her. The AP is a grown ass woman and her parents were making excuses for her.

For me, its another reminder of how unrealistic it is to expect those caught up in cheating to accept responsibility for their actions.

Being called by those not directly involved in the affair signals that there are unhealthy relationships and communication patterns involved as well. Unhealthy relationships lead to unhealthy choices. Unhealthy boundaries mean someone is out of control.

Those caught up in the unhealthy and unnatural don’t see what they’re doing as abnormal in any way. They’ve gotten so used to dysfunction, it’s natural to them.

They live in a different world with different rules than you live by. Trying to talk with them produces frustration and more awkwardness.

The awkwardness shows up with you thinking you’re the one going crazy when in reality, they’re so twisted in terms of what’s natural and unnatural they see nothing wrong with what they’re doing.

Rather than figuring them out, this is a time when you need to keep your own head on straight. At those times when awkward situations happen, you need to recognize them for what they are.

This is where the video “Getting Past the Affair Crisis” comes in. It guides you through ways of keeping your focus when faced with unnatural and dysfunctional affair situations.

Healing starts from the inside out. Find ways of taking care of yourself when faced with the chaos of dysfunction that affairs brings.
