Accidental Affairs waiting to happen

Given the American obsession with sex, it is surprising that we have as few affairs as we do. In a majority of the television shows, there is often a sexual based theme, which keeps the message before us. Add to that the many television ads for erectile dysfunction and contraception, the public is doused with sex again and again and again all within a 60 minute period. With all the hype about sex, it is no wonder that many cheaters take the message to heart and act out. With such an emphasis on sexual activity, it leaves the viewer feeling like they have been cheated if they are not have satisfactory sex every day, if not several times a day. When your spouse is not up to that rigorous a schedule, the cheater is reassured by the ads that the problem is them and not with the one seeking the sex.

Marriages are no longer about commitment or sharing. When those items are taken away, the couple is only left with sex as a bonding behavior and according to the television and movies, they need more of it, and more of it, and if you do not want that much, something is wrong with you, but not to worry, we have pills that will ‘fix’ that. With all that emphasis, there are consequences. Such an over-emphasis leads to breakdowns of natural bonding. It leads to obsessions on sex, it leads to distorted marital priorities. It leads to accidental affairs waiting to happen.

In overcoming an affair, you will also need to dis-engage your mind from the modern over-emphasis on sex as the answer to all problems and the behaviors it brings with it. Such an over-emphasis will distort priorities, emotions and thinking.
